Disclaimer: I do not own Forgotten Realms or any canonical characters or locations that may be mentioned. They are the property of Wizards of the Coast. All OCs are mine.

Author's notes: This story is mostly the result of playing around with making D&D character sheets, and then having the characters take off and start on their own adventures in my head. Therefore it is OC-driven, and I apologise to anyone expecting otherwise. However, I don't intend for my characters to go around outdoing all the canonical characters; I'm just looking to create a tale of my own, that shows something of what ordinary people can be caught up in while the heroes are elsewhere.

Many, many thanks to my friend [livejournal.com profile] lady_rilwen, who is always a source of encouragement when I'm struggling with my writing and whose help and advice I couldn't manage without; and also to [livejournal.com profile] lycaenion, whose enjoyment of the story helped persuade me to begin sharing it with others.

I live in England, renowned for its bad weather. I am known to gripe and moan to people about how it's too cold, too wet, too gloomy, etc.

But sometimes, just sometimes, I get a reminder that there are still beautiful things in the sky.

Tonight, just as it goes dark and the street lights come on, I walk into my kitchen and see a stunning full moon rising over the rooftops. I like the moon, so I can't help but stop and gaze for a bit.

Then, a few hours later, I leave the living room for something, and as I walk back in - facing the window - two stunningly bright stars are shining directly through it. One of them is Venus, immortalised in my favourite geekery as Earendil. As I go and look up at the sky properly, it becomes apparent that the sky is so beautifully clear that even through the haze of light from the city, a large number of stars are clearly visible. I wibble for a while.

Nature is bloody beautiful.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters or the world this is set in. They are the creations of J.R.R. Tolkien.

I woke up with the basic premise for this fic already in my mind, and just felt I had to write it down somewhere. We don't ever really find out what happens to the Ringbearers once they leave Middle-earth, but it struck me that Galadriel, at least, had a lot to face.

Many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lady_rilwen, who betaed this and pointed out my goofs.

Spotted these on [livejournal.com profile] cofmanynames, was intrigued, pinched. Sorry C! :D

Meme 1 )

And meme the second: Tell me three to five things that you associate with me, and I will (try to) post a reply saying what those things mean to me.

*brushing off cobwebs* There we are, still works fine. And I wanted to squee somewhere about this other than over gtalk.

...

I have a JOB! :D

Real Fundraising basically gets paid by charities out of their marketing money to send people out onto the street and fundraise. And I'm gonna be one of those people.

Accommodation, laundry facilities etc provided by the company, I get to travel all over the UK for a very decent wage, and the best part - it's FULL-TIME. No contract, no part-time, nothing like that. I have a steady job and I am over the moon. It means my internet time will be spotty and likely evenings-only, but that's a more than fair price to pay for this.

Congratulate me? :P

This is a rather odd kind of meditation, but when I'm really bummed out or just in need of a general mood lift, I stop whatever else I was doing, put my headphones on, and play Blind Guardian songs at full volume. The power of metal blasts my bad mood into the stratosphere.

You know what can be a nasty shock?

Spending the last few days happily reading through some of your favourite books while at work, chatting to co-workers about them and how much you love them and yeah, they're written for younger people but they're a nice bit of nostalgia... and then coming home last night to find the author of said books has died.

I'm in a bit of a weird headspace right now. Brian Jacques wasn't supposed to be able to die, he was one of my childhood figures who was supposed to just keep going for ever.

One of the PPC Boarders wrote this beautiful tribute for him, though; it makes me feel a little better, knowing I'm not the only one who's going to miss him.

But still. *wibble* Two of my favourite authors passed away in the last two years...

Cassie inna sad headspace. :(

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG.

Barring my second reference being terrible, whch I know it won't be, I has a JOB! :D

The interview was last Monday, and I went in today at their request to see about familiarising myself with the place. It's the local tourist information centre, and they're taking me on as a trainee. 25 hours a week for above-minimum-wage pay. ^_^

2011 is turning out to be an awesome, awesome year. Yay 2011.

As Trojie has started this trend of beta-appreciation, let us keep it going!

First of all, [livejournal.com profile] tea_fiend for helping me through my stumbling first forays into readable writing, and giving me plenty of support thoughout. [livejournal.com profile] agenttrojie, for assisting me with sex!fail and other biological inaccuracies. [livejournal.com profile] lady_rilwen, for both SPaG and logic fails, and for kicking my butt onto the path of not-fail whe I needed it.

And finally, [livejournal.com profile] techno_dann and [livejournal.com profile] neshomeh, who through [livejournal.com profile] signed_up gave us both much help and support in our co-writing efforts. ^_^

So 2010's been a pretty crappy year for me. Family fights, unemployment, general depressing things interleaved with a few moments of good.

2011, on the other hand, is starting with a huge BANG of awesome.

I move house on Monday, to a bigger, more comfortable flat and away from the noisy student housing area. Yay quiet comfy flat.

AND I have a potential job in the offing! Not going to make me rich any time soon, but it's above minimum wage, good hours, and well within walking distance of my new place. Just have to keep fingers crossed I get it.

Still. Awesomeness for the beginning of 2011.

:D :D :D :D :D
cassie5squared: (English language mugger)
So, my official tenancy agreement ran out back in October, but the staff pulled a few strings to keep me here till we could find somewhere else. We've been looking around a few housing associations, and yesterday I got invited to look around a flat.

It's twice the size of my current one, it's warm, and I love the atmosphere. In short, I officially accepted it today and will be sorting out the paperwork over the next few weeks, and will be officially moving in on January 17th. ^_^

I also has job interviews coming up in the New Year, and possible college courses, and basically life is yay. ^_^

*happy*

[livejournal.com profile] lady_rilwen and I are back with a new MST in the series we decided to tackle, yet another squicky bad slash fic.

The first one may be found
right here.

The second and latest one you may find here.

Both are NSFW/NSFB. You've been warned.

That I am A. a massive fan of Lord of the Rings and Discworld, B. a fantasy nerd in general, and C. could possibly be crushed to death, or at least to severe pain, if my bookcase ever fell over on me.

...that I've not posted here for a fairly long time. Nothing's really been important enough for me to blog about. Until last night, because I've spent over £60 and two full days travelling to London and back (no mean feat, given I live at the other end of England) just to see my favourite band perform live.

That's right; in the... gods, only eight months since I was first introduced to Blind Guardian by the awesome [livejournal.com profile] lady_rilwen, they have become my absolute favourite band.

Cut for fangirlish waffling. )

Just in case anyone notices and worries:

I'm going to be offline from today (Sunday) till Thursday, as my monthly internet allowance runs out at about 5 p.m. and I won't be able to afford any more till I get paid on Thursday.

I'm not dead, hiding, kidnapped, lost in a forest, or in hospital for anything (though you're invited to make up scenarios if you really want :P).

See y'all later.

Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Name 5 songs you love starting with that letter.

[livejournal.com profile] dagor_hamster gave me S.

SexyBack by Justin Timberlake. Not very sophisticated, but it's fun to listen to, and is associated with a couple of PPC Agents I'm very fond of.

Shadowland. It's from The Lion King Musical; very evocative, rather sad, but absolutely stunning when done right.

Sexy Data Tango by Voltaire. I blame [livejournal.com profile] lycaenion for this one. She got me into some of his other stuff, mentioned this, and I just had to go and find it. WARNING: Euphemistically explicit.

Super Trouper by ABBA. at least one of their works had to show up on here. *is gleeful ABBA fan*

Stop by the Spice Girls. Another one I just enjoy bouncing around to, especially give the Spice Girls were the first group I remember being a fan of. Aaah, nostalgia...

(Also, it was a nightmare trying to find songs beginning with S.)
